Getting Started

iDeary is a visual idea journal for iOS. Think of it as a canvas where you can drop thoughts as nodes — text, voice, photo, video, or sketch — and draw connections between them to discover how your ideas relate.

  1. Create a map — tap + on the home screen to start a new canvas for any topic or moment.
  2. Add ideas — long-press on the canvas to place a node, then open it to add any type of content.
  3. Connect ideas — drag from one node to another to draw a connection and reveal relationships.
  4. Archive when done — ideas you're not ready to lose but don't need right now can rest in the Archive.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I create a new idea map?

From the home screen, tap the + button in the top-right corner. Give your map a name (or leave it blank) and tap Create. Your new canvas is ready.

How do I add an idea to my canvas?

Long-press anywhere on the canvas to place a new idea node. You can then tap the node to open it and add text, a voice recording, a photo, a video, or a hand-drawn sketch.

How do I connect two ideas?

Tap the connection button and press any idea node to another idea. A line will appear between the two nodes representing their connection.

Can I attach photos or audio to an idea?

Yes. Open any idea node and use the media toolbar at the bottom to attach a photo from your library, capture a new one, record a voice memo, shoot a video, or draw a sketch.

What is the Archive?

The Archive lets you rest ideas you're not ready to delete but don't need on your active canvas. Open an idea node, scroll to the bottom, and tap Archive Idea. Archived ideas are accessible from the Archive tab on the home screen.

How do I restore an archived idea?

Go to the Archive tab, tap the idea you want to restore, and select Restore. It will return to its original map.

Is my data backed up?

iDeary stores everything locally on your device. Your data is included in your standard iCloud or iTunes backups if you have those enabled in iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → iDeary.

Does iDeary require an internet connection?

No. iDeary works entirely offline. No account is needed and nothing is sent to the internet.

How do I delete an idea or a map?

To delete an idea node, open it and tap the delete button (trash icon). To delete an entire map, go to the home screen, long-press the map card, and select Delete from the context menu.

How do I rename a map?

On the home screen, long-press a map card and tap Rename, or long-press the card title to edit it inline.
